Sochoix October 2016 Product Reviews
If you don't know, Sochoix is a subscription box that allows you to pick out 5 samples each month from mid-range and high end makeup brands. You can also purchase samples for $3 each if you don't want to do a monthly subscription box. If you do have a monthly subscription, you accrue points each month that you can use toward the purchase of full size products. Pictured are the 5 samples that I received at the beginning of October.
The J'adore by Marc Jacobs has a satin finish that leans toward the matte side of things. I do not find it uncomfortable, but it does set on the lips with a slight tight feeling. It does not feel drying or moisturizing in my experience. I found it to wear well throughout the day and didn't experience very much transfer. I do wonder if the good wear time I experienced had to do more with the color being a more natural shade, than the formula. I'm on the fence about purchasing a full size in a different color to see if the lasting power is in fact due to the formula. The Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme in J'adore retails for $30.00 at marcjacobsbeauty.com.
The Nars eyeshadow primer worked well for me. I didn't notice any creasing or fading of my eyeshadow. I felt like it was much easier to blend eyeshadow over it compared to my normal Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The longevity and vibrancy of the eyeshadow paired with this was also comparable to what I experience with Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The fact that I don't have as hard of a time blending my eyeshadows and the formula doesn't separate the way Too Faced does, has me considering purchasing this in the full size. The Nars 'Pro Prime' Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base retails for $26.00 at Nordstrom.
I haven't had the chance to give the Nars loose powder a try. The Nars 'Light Reflecting' Loose Setting Powder retails for $37.00 at Nordstrom.
The YSL Tint in oil was a decent product. The color appears peach in the tube, but looked pink on me. I do feel like it gives my lips some moisture. I like that it didn't feel oily, slippery, or sticky. It was comfortable to wear and I have no complaints on the formula. The only similar product I have tried are the Milani Moisture Lock oils and I do think that the YSL formula gives more color and feels lighter and more comfortable on the lips. I guess the question becomes if you think that color and comfort are worth the extra $24. I like this enough to finish the sample, but probably won't purchase a full size. The YSL 'Volupte' Tint-in-Oil in 06 Peach Me in Love retails for $32.00 at Nordstrom.
The color of the Tom Ford Cream Color for eyes is stunning, but not very unique. I mainly wanted to try out this sample because I know I would never buy a full size for myself due to the price. In my opinion it is very similar to the Flower Beauty Color Play Creme Shadow Formula. Flower Beauty has since discontinued that line and now they are in black packaging with a different name, so the formula might be completely different than the one I had in the past. Anyway, this type of formula doesn't seem unique and since I've had my eye on the Fiona Stiles Aqua Eyes and they are only $22, I may give that a try next. The Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes retails for $45.00 at Neiman Marcus.
