Sochoix Subscription Box September 2016

sochoix subscription box review

If you don't know, Sochoix is a subscription box that allows you to pick out 5 samples each month from mid-range and high end makeup brands.  You can also purchase samples for $3 each if you don't want to do a monthly subscription box. If you do have a monthly subscription, you accrue points each month that you can use toward the purchase of full size products.  I happen to enjoy the service and I like that I can really try out a product at my leisure before committing to full size product.  Another thing I like about this subscription is that I get to pick out the products for myself.  I am not interested in other boxes that send random products not catered to my tastes.  Pictured above are the 5 samples that I received at the beginning of the month and now that I've used everything throughout the month, I'll give my thoughts on them.  I typically try things for longer than a month, so although I have used 4 of these products several times, I still consider these first impressions.

Bobbi Brown Serum foundation and Laura Mercier candleglow foundation

Bobbi Brown Serum Foundation in Golden
Unfortunately not only does this foundation have a noticeable fragrance, but I felt a burning sensation when I tried it on my face.  Due to that, I did not continue to test it out.
If you aren't sensitive to scent or still want to check this out for yourself, it is $65.00 at Nordstrom.

Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation in Pecan
This foundation has a beautiful skin like finish.  It has sheer coverage but is buildable to medium coverage.  I do not find this foundation to sink into my pores or smile lines.  It wears comfortably throughout the day with no fading.  I was surprised that although it would look shinier halfway through the day, it wasn't a situation that needed blotting.  I'm excited to keep using this foundation because so far I really enjoy the finish and performance.
You can purchase Laura Mercier Candleglow for $48.00 at Nordstrom.

Tarte Tarteist Metallic Shadow in Scandal (LE)
If you are looking for a very pigmented shadow that is easy to use and has high shine, then check this one out from Tarte.  The whole line of shadows are limited edition and there are a total of 11 shades.   The one I tried in scandal had no fallout and the smallest amount of product covers my whole lid.  If you try this, remember a little bit goes a long way.  The first time I used it, I wasn't expecting that and I experienced fallout because I had too much pigment on my brush.  I didn't find this shadow to crease on me but it did seem to irritate my eyes.  I won't be using it anymore because of the eye irritation, but I was quite impressed with this product.  It definitely has me wanting to try out a few more things from Tarte.
The Metallic shadows retail for $14.00 at Tarte.com.

Dior 'Diorshow' Mono Eyeshadows in 994 Power and 980 Atmosphere
I really didn't expect to like these eyeshadows, I thought they would be regular eyeshadows that are overpriced.  Well they could be considered overpriced, but they are still very nice eyeshadows.  They work well with both your fingers and any brush.  They blend easily with each other and with other brands of eyeshadow.  Every time I use them, I just think to myself that they are very easy to work with.  I do think you have to be careful not to overload your brush when using 994 Power.  I did notice fallout if I had too much pigment on my brush when using that one.  On the up side tapping off the excess keeps this from happening.  Also, if it does fall on your face, it doesn't stick and is very easy to sweep off.  As far as color, I do think 980 Atmosphere appears slightly ashy on me.  980 Atmosphere is also less pigmented as you can see in the swatches above, so although it works just fine, I think the price point warrants better payoff.
The Diorshow mono Eyeshadows are available for $29.50 each at Nordstrom.
